Ruder Finn wins PR retainer for prestigious French wine estate Château Margaux

August 03, 2010

Château Margaux, the renowned French wine estate of Bordeaux , has selected Ruder Finn as their retainer PR Agency for China. Château Margaux is among the world's most prestigious and expensive wines, retaining its unique positioning as a classified First Growth of Bordeaux through several centuries. Following the continuous growth in luxury consumption in China in the past 10 years, Ruder Finn has been in the forefront of successful consumer education in luxury brands. Ruder Finn is charged with developing brand positioning, media communications strategy and providing strategic counseling over a 12 month period.

In May, Ruder Finn had provided media communications for Château Margaux in Beijing. On May 22nd, Château Margaux held, in collaboration with a global wine auction leader, an exclusive black tie Gala dinner on the historical Great Wall of China as a Tribute to the Legacy of the Great Wall. The dinner was hosted by Mrs. Corinne Mentzelopoulos, the owner of Château Margaux, who continues the legacy of long-term commitment in recognizing and supporting the world’s greatest architectural sites, and M. John Kapon, President of Acker Merrall & Condit Asia. The prominent guests, who included some of the biggest wine collectors in Asia, were treated to Michelin three-star chef Guy Savoy’s fine cuisine paired with eighteen legendary and exceptional wines of Château Margaux.

Five unique Château Margaux lots were sold in Hong Kong, on May 29th, during an auction sale organized by Acker Merrall & Condit Asia.  This sale was regarded as the largest wine auction ever conducted in Asia.  Part of the net proceeds of this sale was donated to the China Great Wall Society for the preservation of the Great Wall.  With these funds, the China Great Wall Society launched a complete program, the “2010 Château Margaux Road Show for the Preservation of the Great Wall”, with the purpose of protecting and publicizing the cultural heritage of the Great Wall in China.

“Today, China is probably Château Margaux’s second largest market, and may soon become the first”, said Paul Pontallier, the General Manager of Château Margaux “China is the world’s fastest ever growing wine market and will soon become a leading connoisseur of fine wines. Consequently, we aim to position Château Margaux in China as it is positioned elsewhere in the world; at the very top.”

“It is a privilege to work with such a legendary and prestigious brand as Château Margaux”, said Gao Ming, Vice President & Shanghai General Manager, Ruder Finn Asia. “We have the experience and understand the Chinese luxury consumers and they are ready for the exquisite taste of fine wines from Château Margaux!’

In addition to the recent events and for the first time in Château Margaux history, a representative has been sent abroad, to China, to understand the Chinese market and to promote Château Margaux’s brand.

Château Margaux the highly regarded wine estate of Bordeaux, was one of four wines to achieve Premier cru (First Great Classified Growth)status in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. Château Margaux has been renowned since the 12th century and has successively won the favor of the former American President, Thomas Jefferson, the French Emperor Napoleon III and more recently, the Chinese President Hu Jintao, as Château Margaux is the only winery he has visited during his stay in France, in 2001.  Château Margaux currently produces three rare treasures: Château Margaux, Pavillon Rouge and Pavillon Blanc.
