Ruder Finn Asia has teamed up with The Body Shop Singapore on a new campaign that is aimed at raising awareness of an important global issue - the sex trafficking of children and young people.
The campaign, called STOP (Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People), is part of a global The Body Shop initiative that marks a new chapter in their championing of human rights. Working in partnership with ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) International, this campaign aims to raise awareness and inspire long term change to stop the abuse of an estimated 1.8 million children and young people who suffer each year[1].
Jean-Michel Dumont, Chairman of Ruder Finn Asia, said: “The trafficking of people for sexual exploitation is a very important global issue which everyone should be aware of and join the fight against. Ruder Finn Asia applauds The Body Shop for taking up this cause and are proud to be working with The Body Shop Singapore in the launch of its STOP campaign.”
This is Ruder Finn Asia’s second anti-human trafficking effort. Ruder Finn Asia worked with MTV EXIT in March 2009 on the Singapore launch of their first-ever anime production on human trafficking as part of a regional MTV EXIT campaign.
Josephine Chow, General Manager, The Body Shop, Asia Pacific, said: “Sex trafficking is an important issue for The Body Shop as it was part of our founder Dame Anita Roddick’s campaign legacy. The Ruder Finn Asia team has been passionate and knowledgeable about this issue and we are pleased to have them working with us as we kickoff this three-year campaign in Singapore.”
In Singapore, the STOP campaign will begin on 6 August when, for two weeks, all The Body Shop stores on the island will focus on the issue with special window displays and the distribution of campaign leaflets.
In addition to raising awareness, The Body Shop will be raising funds through the sale of its special edition Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream. Profits from the sale of the hand cream will be donated to local campaign partners, the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) Singapore and Humanitarian Organisation of Migration Economics (H.O.M.E) to conduct research on the trafficking situation in Singapore, as well as the ECPAT Youth Partnership Project in South Vietnam.
To support the project, Ruder Finn Asia is providing strategic counsel and outreach to Singapore and regional media.
