Returnee Leon Liu is appointed Ruder Finn’s General Manager for Beijing

June 28, 2010

After three years on the corporate side, Leon Liu returns toRuder Finn today as General Manager for its Beijing office. Ruder Finn Beijing has around 100 people and services clients in the corporate areas such as VW, Michelin and Boeing, and in branding and marketing communications with Li Ning and Audi. Its tourism practice has also been servicing Canada for 5 years. Liu will be reporting to Jean-Michel Dumont, Chairman of Ruder Finn Asia.

Liu has over fifteen years experience in both PR communications and media. From 2001 to 2007, Liu worked for Ruder Finn as an Account Director in charge of the company’s corporate practice covering such industries as manufacturing, energy, automobile, and finance. During that period, he developed an array of PR and communications expertise and skills such as strategic planning, media relations, issues /crisis handling and event management.

In 2008, Liu joined Vestas China, the world’s leading wind power solution provider, as Senior PR Manager and in 2009, was appointed as interim Head of Communications. At Vestas, Liu was in charge of the company’s China media communications strategy and program planning. He served as its Chinese language spokesperson in the local market.

Prior to joining Vestas China, Liu worked with Accor Group, the European hospitality industry leader, as the PR & Communications Director in its Greater China headquarters in Shanghai. At Accor he was responsible for both corporate reputation management and marketing communications for its six brands from luxury Sofitel to economy Ibis in the China market. Liu was also the communications manager in Accor Group’s risk management team during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

Before first joining Ruder Finn, Liu worked for Kimberly-Clark China as a PR specialist and Beijing Radio Station as a reporter and moderator.

“I am thrilled to have Leon back with us. His experience and leadership qualities have been recognized by our team in the past, and his added experience outside of the company will certainly be a strong driver in continuing Ruder Finn Beijing’s success”’ says Jean-Michel Dumont, Chairman, Ruder Finn Asia Pacific. “We have seen many ex-staff re-joining Ruder Finn over the last few months. This says a lot about Ruder Finn’s strong culture, and with the return of Leon, we hope that more will follow suit.”

"Thanks to its great leadership and team's collaboration in the past few years, Ruder Finn has grown from a boutique PR agency to a full-service PR consultancy“, says Liu. “I am glad to rejoin a company which taught me a lot and that I helped grow and transform, and I am impressed at the new heights the company has reached since I left. I look forward to working with the team again to continue to deliver quality service and PR consultancy to our blue chip clients".
